Professor Bortoni received the B.E. degree in Electrical Engineering from UNIFEI, Itajuba, Brazil, in 1990; the M.Sc. degree in Energy Systems Planning from the UNICAMP, Campinas, Brazil, in 1993; the D.Sc. degree in Power Systems from EPUSP, Sao Paulo, Brazil, in 1998; and the Habilitation from USP, Sao Carlos, Brazil, in 2012. He was a Visiting Professor at Amazon University, Manaus, Brazil, at the Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne, Switzerland, and Montanuniversitat Leoben in Leoben, Austria. Presently Dr. Bortoni is a Professor at UNIFEI, an Assistant Editor of the IET Generation, Transmission and Distribution, and of the Flow Measurement and Instrumentation Journals. He is chair of the standard IEEE Std. C50.12, and member of several Working Groups of standards updates. Dr. Bortoni is the recipient of the 2018 ISA Power Industry Division Achievement Award. Dr. Bortoni has published more than 300 peer reviewed papers, 15 books or chapters, and a number of field testes and reports. His interests include electrical machines, instrumentation, power generation, smart grids, and energy systems planning and design
